Theo’s First Birthday

Today is Theo’s first birthday!  We have been through so much this year together.  He got me through a terrible breakup, a move into my very own studio, and we’ve both grown so much.  When I first got him, I was completely clueless and had no idea what to do with my 10-week-old ball of fluff.  He would run into the walls, cry and make little hamster noises all night, and have little accidents everywhere.  I had no idea puppies were so hard!  I read so many books beforehand but nothing prepared me for the blood, sweat and tears that go into raising a puppy.  I didn’t know you had to train them to walk on a leash!  We would practice around my apartment, before he was vaccinated, and I was so glad when he mastered our first walk.  The day he was neutered, I stayed up all night holding him, while he cried and whimpered.  I remember the first time I took him to the dog park, and he ran around in crazy circles and sniffed every dogs’ bum in the park, haha.  When he learned his first tricks and passed his tricks class, I was so proud.  When I flew him home to Maryland and he met my family and my parents couldn’t get enough of him, I really felt like he was a part of us.

Now, he is fully potty trained, sleeps next to me all night, and has become an irreplaceable part of my life.  I guess we did alright.

We made it.

Since I am traveling for work on Theo’s birthday (so sad) and can’t be with him, here is a picture of us on my birthday. I get back late tonight and plan on giving him presents and tons of treats.
