The Basenji is known as the barkless dog because they yodel instead of bark. They produce an unusual yodel-like sound due to their uniquely shaped larynx. It apparently can be compared to a child screaming so I am not sure it is a great alternative to barking haha. They are a breed of hunting dog that originates from Central Africa.
Breed Specifics:
- Typically weigh 20-26 pounds
- Athletic and deceptively powerful for their small size
- Alert, affectionate, energetic, curious but reserved with strangers
- Known for being extremely playful
- The basenji cleans itself like a cat so little grooming is needed. What kind of alien dog is this!
