Happy Trails Means Waggin’ Tails

Before Theo came into my life, I was not active at all.  I’d sporadically go on a hike once in a while but if I needed to go a little more than a few blocks away, I would drive there.  Which is pretty pathetic since I live in a city where it’s sunny almost every day.

Now things have definitely changed for the better!  We do daily walks (30 mins - 1hour) and even though it is sometimes tough getting out the door after working all day, I love spending the time with him.  It is our mingle hour with other dog owners and pups!  And, I feel good about myself and have toned up too.

Tips to get yourself out the door:
  • Get the walk done and over with.  It is nearly impossible to take Theo out if I first come home, eat a massive dinner and pour myself a glass of wine.  Walk first, then you can enjoy your relaxation time together.
  • Music is key!  On days I am particularly dragging, I’ll download a new song or two that pumps me up and gets me excited.
  • If you don’t have any energy, tell yourself you can do just 10-15 minutes.  I find that once I am out with him and we’ve walked a few blocks, I sometimes don’t want to stop and can go even longer.
  • Look at your dog’s face. You owe it to them.  They need an adventure for the day.
If you are way too tired, look up your local dog park.  On days I am not feeling well, this is a definite savior.  I can park my bum on a bench and watch him wrestle and play.  It is a great way for him to burn energy while I conserve mine. A bored dog means a destructive, excessive barking dog.

Happy trails means waggin’ tails! haha
