Gifts for Animal Lovers

While Valentine’s Day may be over, there are many other reasons to get gifts for the ones you love.  Anniversaries, birthdays, and “just because I love you” gifts…

Here are a few ideas for the animal lover in your life!

Gift Idea #1 - Tickets to the Aquarium/Zoo
We have the Aquarium of the Pacific located in Long Beach that is 4th largest aquarium in the US.  It’s a nice facility and the last time I went, they had some evil looking sharks.  My favorite!  I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t it super lame to just hand someone tickets?  For my last boyfriend on Valentine’s day, I put together a whole package that included a chocolate cake (his fave), I made a fish card (I couldn't find one anywhere) that said a cheesy message, “Of all the fish in the sea, you're the one for me” and inside I cut out a picture of an evil looking shark about to attack and pasted it on the inside.  It was pretty cool.  AND I filled the package with fishy treats like Goldfish snacks, Swedish fish, gummy worms, and more.

You can do the same with the Zoo, though I am not that impressed with the LA Zoo.

Romantic, right?

Gift Idea #2 – Private Animal Encounter
Okay, this idea is a once in a lifetime opportunity but it is very expensive.  A private animal encounter where you and your date have close encounters with lions, tigers and bears (oh my!). You have to be 15 years or  older.  And have the courage of a lion.

Cost: $595/per person
$1095/per couple
2 Hours

Gift Idea #3 – Safari Cat Rescue Visit
One special weekend each month, The Shambala Preserve opens its gates to the public for a series of exciting and informative "safaris" through the world of the big cats, all of whom are endangered or threatened species. Meet African lions, Bengal and Siberian tigers, and black and spotted leopards, servals, and mountain lions, up close and personal!  All of these exotic cats have been born in the U.S. to be sold as pets.  : (

The afternoon Safari consists of a 3 hour planned program, including a 1 hour guided, walking tour.  This awesome gift benefits the preserve and reservations are a minimum donation of $50 per person!
