The Pekingese has a cool background story and is even referred to as “The Lion Dog”. The breed won at the last Westminster dog show.
Breed Specifics
- The breed originated from China, is over 2000 years old, and has hardly changed in all that time.
- Their flat face and large eyes are some of the breed's most obvious characteristics.
- They have a muscular and durable body and their legs are bowed and restrict their movement. Their gait may have been deliberately bred to prevent the court dogs from wandering in ancient times. Crazy, huh?
- Weight 7 – 14 lbs.
- Not very active dogs so they are great for apartments.
- They are high-maintenance to groom.
